| New York Red Bulls defender Carlos Mendes had surgery in Germany on Thursday to repair a sports hernia. Mendes is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks. He probably will miss the rest of the season unless the Red Bulls make the playoffs and advance beyond the first round.
