| Rapids appoint Gary Smith as new head coach (AP) |
| The Colorado Rapids removed the interim tag from Gary Smith's title and made him the sixth head coach of the Major League Soccer franchise. Smith took over on an interim basis after former coach Fernando Clavijo left the team for personal reasons in August. Smith coached the Rapids to a month of undefeated play in September and three road wins. -- read full article |

| Crew's Schmid is MLS coach of year (AP) |
| Sigi Schmid of the Columbus Crew is Major League Soccer's coach of the year. Schmid earned the most votes in polling of MLS players, general managers, coaches and members of the media. | Red Bulls top Dynamo 3-0 to win Western semifinal (AP) |
| Dane Richards had a goal and an assist, and the New York Red Bulls won the Western Conference semifinal series on goal aggregate with a 3-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Sunday. The Red Bulls tied 1-1 with the Dynamo, the two-time defending MLS Cup champions, in the series opener on Nov. 1. The teams tied 1-1 in the first leg of the two-game quarterfinal match Nov. 1 in Kansas City, giving Columbus a 3-1 aggregate victory.
