The wireless protocol is being studied as a way to link a car's dashboard display to sensors that check engine status, oil pressure and tire pressure. That would help reduce wiring that adds weight and hurts a car's fuel efficiency. Such uses may show up in cars by 2013, said a Bluetooth industry group. Meanwhile, the typical use for Bluetooth, connecting mobile phones with hands-free devices -- is already a common factory-installed car option.
