| Investor's Business Daily - A new portable fingerprint reader is letting police find out quickly when suspects are lying about their identities, as well as when they have warrants out for their arrest and are potentially dangerous. The cell phone-size gadget, known as BlueChecks, uses Bluetooth wireless technology to send the prints to a system that checks them against a database. Officers then receive complete background data within a couple of minutes. A growing number of police departments, from Boston to Los Angeles, are deploying or looking into buying the scanners, which cost about $8,000 each. -- read full article |
