    Busch, Payton leave Minnesota program
    Minnesota reserves Travis Busch and Kevin Payton are leaving the basketball program with eligibility remaining. Coach Tubby Smith made the announcement on Friday. Both Busch and Payton are on track to graduate at the end of this semester. Busch averaged 2.6 points in two seasons. He scored a career-high 13 points in Minnesota's upset of Louisville. He has two years of eligibility remaining and could play at a Division II school next season without having to sit out a year. -- read full article

    Ex-Kentucky basketball star Casey dies at 60
    Former Kentucky basketball player Mike Casey has died at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. He was 60. Shannon Funeral Home owner John Shannon says Casey died Thursday of heart complications. Casey was the leading scorer at Kentucky as a sophomore in the 1967-68 season. He sat out the 1969-70 season after breaking a leg. He returned the next year to finish his Kentucky career with 1,535 points, making him the school's 13th all-time scorer.     Sooners' Griffin wins Wooden award
    Blake Griffin keeps picking up trophies on his way to the NBA. The Oklahoma sophomore won the John R. Wooden Award as college basketball's top player on Friday only three days after he announced that he would turn pro. DeJuan Blair and Tyler Hansbrough, two other finalists, did not show up for the ceremony, which was held at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.     Jayhawks' Appleton and Thomas seek transfers
    Basketball players Tyrone Appleton and Quintrell Thomas are seeking to transfer from Kansas after this semester. Coach Bill Self said Thursday that Appleton, a junior guard, and Thomas, a freshman forward, have "chosen to attend a university where they can have expanded roles."     Alabama, coach Grant agree to $1.8M, 7-year deal
    New Alabama basketball coach Anthony Grant will receive a seven-year deal worth nearly $2 million annually. The university released details of the contract Thursday that shows Grant will make $1.8 million a year. The deal must be approved by the Board of Trustees' Compensation committee.
