| Ex-coach Gene Bartow undergoing cancer treatment |
| Former UCLA and UAB basketball coach Gene Bartow has been diagnosed with stomach cancer.
A UAB spokesman said Wednesday the 78-year-old Bartow is to begin outpatient treatment at the Kirklin Clinic in Birmingham next week.
Bartow succeeded John Wooden as UCLA's coach in 1976 and led the Bruins to the Final Four. He left after two seasons to start UAB's program. -- read full article |

| Here's a sign of how badly Isiah Thomas wanted to return to coaching: He's working for free at Florida International.
At his introductory news conference at FIU on Wednesday, Thomas said his salary the first year from the Golden Panthers will be donated back to the school's athletic department.

| Southern Miss G Wise enters NBA draft |
| Southern Miss point guard Jeremy Wise has decided to enter the NBA draft, but won't hire an agent.
Wise said in a statement released by the school Wednesday that he has made the decision to see what kind of interest he will receive, but intends to return to school for his senior season.
He has until June 15 to withdraw his name from the June 25 draft to retain his eligibility.
Coach Larry Eustachy says Wise has his "complete support."

| Connecticut's Hasheem Thabeet has decided to enter the NBA draft.
The 7-foot-3 center said Tuesday that he made the decision after speaking to family, friends and coach Jim Calhoun.
In a statement released by the school, Calhoun called Thabeet "one of the most dominant defensive players in the history of college basketball," and said he believes he is ready to make the move to the NBA.

| Georgetown says G Wattad transferring |
| Georgetown says sophomore guard Omar Wattad is transferring at the end of the semester.
He is the third Hoyas basketball player in the past two years to leave for another school.
Guard Jeremiah Rivers - son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers - and center Vernon Macklin left Georgetown last spring.
The 6-foot-5 Wattad averaged 2.6 points and 1.4 rebounds this season for Georgetown, which was ranked as high as No. 9 in the AP Top 25 before losing 12 of its last 16 games to finish 16-15. -- read full article |
