| Painter selected for USA U19 coaching staff |
| Purdue coach Matt Painter will be one of two assistant coaches for the USA Basketball Under-19 World Championships team.
Painter will join Jamie Dixon of Pittsburgh, the team's head coach, and Chris Lowery of Southern Illinois on the U.S. staff for the 16-team tournament July 2-12 in Auckland, New Zealand. The Americans' preliminary round opens July 2 against Iran.
Trials to select the team will be held June 16-18 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. -- read full article |

| Utah coach gets new five-year contract, raise |
| Utah has rewarded basketball coach Jim Boylen with a raise and new contract after just two years on the job.
Utah announced Tuesday that Boylen has signed a five-year deal that will pay him $850,000 annually with potential for $1 million with incentives.
Boylen had three years remaining on his original contract, which paid him $575,000 a year.
Boylen has gone 42-25 in two seasons at Utah. -- read full article |

| The associate men's basketball coach at the University of Maine has resigned after being charged with making sexual advances on a student athlete.
Mike Burden resigned Monday after being placed on paid administrative leave a day earlier by Athletic Director Blake James.

| A woman accused of trying to extort money from Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino has been indicted.
A federal grand jury on Tuesday indicted Karen Cunagin (KOON'-ah-gen) Sypher (SY'-fur) on charges of extortion and lying to the FBI. Sypher is the estranged wife of Louisville equipment manager Tim Sypher.
A criminal complaint says Tim Sypher brought Pitino a written list of demands from his wife including a house, cars and money. -- read full article |

| Report: Floyd accused of paying Mayo associate |
| A former associate of NBA star O.J. Mayo has told Yahoo! Sports that Southern California basketball coach Tim Floyd paid a man who helped get Mayo to play for the Trojans.
In a story posted Tuesday night at Yahoo! Sports, Louis Johnson, the former associate of Mayo's, said Rodney Guillory told him that Floyd had given Guillory "a grand." Johnson said he was able to view $100 bills inside an envelope Guillory had.

| Varnado returning to Mississippi St. for senior year |
Mississippi State center Jarvis Varnado will return for his senior season after deciding not to turn pro.
The school announced the decision late Monday.
The nation's leading shot blocker for two straight seasons will make a run at the NCAA record for career blocks in 2009-10. He is 19 blocks shy of breaking Shaquille O'Neal's career SEC record of 412 and is 142 from passing the NCAA career mark of 535 set from 1999-2002 by Louisiana-Monroe's Wojciech Mydra.

| Michigan man in U.S. court on sports-fixing charges |
A man at the center of an alleged scheme to fix the outcome of Florida horse races and University of Toledo football and basketball games was ordered Monday to stay away from gambling, even lottery tickets, as his cases move through court.
Ghazi "Gary" Manni, 52, of Sterling Heights, is charged with conspiring with another gambler and jockey Ricardo Valdes to fix races, mostly at Tampa Bay Downs, from December 2005 through 2006.

| Obama toasts Tar Heels at White House |
President Barack Obama says his scrimmage with North Carolina's basketball team last year brought good fortune to him and the team.
North Carolina won the national championship. After the scrimmage, Obama won the state's Democratic primary, he carried North Carolina in the general election and won the White House.
Obama said everyone was excited as the champion Tar Heels visited the White House on Monday.

| Pitino denies rumors that he's returning to NBA |
Louisville coach Rick Pitino says there is "absolutely no truth" to the rumors that he is returning to the NBA.
Pitino released a statement Saturday saying neither he nor anyone representing him has contacted the Sacramento Kings' about their vacant coaching job.
He says the rumors are hurting the Kings and misleading players he is attempting to recruit to Louisville.

| Pauley Pavilion to get $185 million facelift |
UCLA is giving Pauley Pavilion a $185 million facelift in hopes of putting one of college basketball's most recognized arenas on the national map again.
The renovation plans, announced Monday, will include a new entrance, locker rooms for both the men's and women's basketball teams and over 1,000 additional seats to bring its capacity to nearly 14,000.
