    Kentucky's Wall put in program after pleading guilty
    Kentucky recruit John Wall has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and entered a program for first offenders which could lead to having his record cleared. Wall, 18, pleaded guilty Wednesday to breaking and entering. Wake County Assistant District Attorney Phillip Cowan said that under the terms of the plea, Wall must complete 75 hours of community service, pay court costs and program fees and stay out of trouble for the next six months.

    Report: Memphis violations under Calipari alleged
    The University of Memphis is responding to an NCAA notice of allegations accusing the men's basketball program of major violations during the 2007-08 season under John Calipari, a newspaper reported Wednesday. The allegations include "knowing fraudulence or misconduct" on an SAT exam by a player on that season's team, which finished runner-up in the NCAA tournament, The Commercial Appeal reported on its Web site.

    Cottrell steps down as Houston Baptist AD
    Ron Cottrell stepped down as Houston Baptist's athletic director on Tuesday to concentrate on his role as men's basketball coach as the school moves toward full membership in NCAA Division I. The university said Cottrell would become associate athletic director and Steve Moniaci, who has been associate athletic director, would be interim athletic director until a successor is named. Cottrell has been athletic director for the past 15 years and the basketball coach for 19 years.

    Peterson decides to transfer to Arkansas
    Guard Jeff Peterson is transferring from Iowa to Arkansas. The Razorbacks confirmed the transfer on Tuesday. Peterson averaged 10.6 points per game for the Hawkeyes last season and Arkansas coach John Pelphrey says he's a good addition to the Razorbacks' program. Peterson will sit out a year before being eligible for the 2010-11 season. He started 25 games for the Hawkeyes as a sophomore in 2008-09 but missed the final seven games of the season with a hamstring injury.

    Kentucky announced Tuesday that three players from last year's squad are leaving the program, bringing the Wildcats closer to their roster limit of 13 scholarship players. Sophomore forward A.J. Stewart plans to transfer, as does 6-foot-3 freshman Donald Williams. Senior Jared Carter will not seek a fifth year of eligibility. Kentucky is now down to 15 scholarship players - including coach John Calipari's incoming freshman class.

    A basketball player missing his left hand has received a scholarship to play for Division I Manhattan College next season. Kevin Laue is a 6-foot-10 center whose left arm ends just past the elbow. A California native, he played a postgraduate season for Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia this year hoping to impress college coaches. Laue averaged about 10 points and five rebounds competing against many Division I prospects.
