| Memphis AD defends program over allegations |
Memphis athletic director R.C. Johnson Thursday defended the Tigers men's basketball program of any wrongdoings, but wouldn't confirm that Derrick Rose is the player at the center of alleged major NCAA violations.
"We wouldn't play anybody if we hadn't checked it out pretty thoroughly," Johnson told The Associated Press.

| USC's Johnson gets another year of eligibility |
Southern California forward Marcus Johnson has been granted another year of eligibility.
Coach Tim Floyd said Thursday that the NCAA granted a "season of competition" waiver for Johnson on the condition that he be withheld from the first two games of the 2009-10 season, when he will be considered a senior.
Johnson applied for the waiver because he competed in just one exhibition game during the 2007-08 season at Connecticut before transferring to USC.
He averaged 3.1 points and 1.

| Kentucky's Wall put in program after pleading guilty |
Kentucky recruit John Wall has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and entered a program for first offenders which could lead to having his record cleared.
Wall, 18, pleaded guilty Wednesday to breaking and entering.
Wake County Assistant District Attorney Phillip Cowan said that under the terms of the plea, Wall must complete 75 hours of community service, pay court costs and program fees and stay out of trouble for the next six months.

| UK sues Gillispie day after coach sued university |
The University of Kentucky has sued former basketball coach Billy Gillispie the day after Gillispie filed suit against the school claiming breach of contract.
The university's suit was filed Thursday in Franklin Circuit Court in Kentucky, which the school contends is the proper venue for any litigation involving the coach's former employment. Gillispie had filed his claim Wednesday in Dallas, asking for at least $6 million in pay, punitive damages, attorneys' fees and court costs.

| NCAA alleges Memphis violations under Calipari |
The University of Memphis is responding to an NCAA notice of allegations accusing the men's basketball program of major violations during the 2007-08 season under John Calipari, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
The allegations include "knowing fraudulence or misconduct" on an SAT exam by a player on that season's team, which finished runner-up in the NCAA tournament, The Commercial Appeal reported on its Web site.
