| Illini forward Davis breaks ankle in practice |
Illinois forward Mike Davis broke his ankle in a voluntary morning practice session on Tuesday, forcing him to withdraw from the USA Basketball World University Game team trials.
The school said it will take between six and eight weeks for Davis to recover.
Illinois coach Bruce Weber said he is disappointed because Davis has worked hard in preparing for next week's trials. Weber said instead of playing basketball over the next two months, Davis will work out in the weight room.

| BYU's Rose has emergency spleen surgery |
BYU basketball coach Dave Rose had emergency surgery to remove his spleen after experiencing internal bleeding over the weekend.
The school says Rose could take several weeks to recover from the surgery and his assistants will assume his duties, including running summer basketball camps.
Athletic director Tom Holmoe announced Rose's surgery in a news release Tuesday.
Rose was in Las Vegas for a family reunion when he became ill over the weekend.
BYU is 97-34 in four seasons under Rose.

| Vetrone takes over as interim coach at FDU |
Less than a week after firing longtime coach Tom Green, Fairleigh Dickinson has hired assistant Greg Vetrone as interim coach through next season.
The hiring was announced Tuesday by athletic director David Langford, who acknowledged last week that the late timing of Green's dismissal might prompt the school to choose an interim coach.
Vetrone, who was an assistant at FDU in the late 1980s and rejoined the staff last season, has more than 20 years coaching in basketball.

| Memphis meets with NCAA, waits on ruling |
The NCAA met with Memphis officials on Saturday to discuss major violations and the school must now wait at least six weeks for a ruling on whether its 38 wins from the 2007-08 season will count.
The most serious allegation taken up at the meeting was whether an unknown person took the SAT for a player.
The NCAA has said the athlete in question played for the Tigers for only the 2007-08 season and the 2008 NCAA tournament.

| LSU's Mitchell withdraws from NBA draft |
LSU forward Tasmin Mitchell has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return to the Tigers as a fifth-year senior next season.
LSU coach Trent Johnson said he met with Mitchell on Monday morning and they faxed the appropriate paperwork to the NBA.
Mitchell averaged 16.3 points and 7.2 rebounds last season. He returning to school and finishing his degree were in his best interest.

| NCAA approves 3 rules changes for men's hoops |
An NCAA committee has approved three rules changes intended to clarify block-charge calls, who can shoot free throws after an injury and the expanded use of replay.
The announcement Monday means secondary defenders must establish position outside the area between the backboard and the front of the rim to draw a charge call.
