    Akron coach Dambrot gets extension
    The University of Akron says it has approved a two-year contract extension for men's basketball coach Keith Dambrot. Dambrot's contract was renewed on Wednesday through June 2016. The Board of Trustees also approved a three-year contract extension for women's basketball coach Jodi Kest that runs through 2014. Dambrot, who also coached LeBron James' high school basketball team, has led the Zips to a 115-51 record in five seasons at Akron.

    UCLA F Gordon tears right knee tendon
    Drew Gordon of UCLA has partially torn the patellar tendon in his right knee during tryouts for the U.S. team that will play in the Under-19 world basketball championships. The sophomore forward was hurt Tuesday in Colorado Springs, Colo., the university said Wednesday. Gordon was scheduled to return to Los Angeles on Wednesday night, when he will be further evaluated. There were no immediate details about his prognosis, the school said.

    BYU coach Rose diagnosed with pancreatic cancer
    BYU basketball coach Dave Rose has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The university said on its Web site Wednesday that Rose's family announced that tests from emergency surgery he had earlier this month to stop internal bleeding were positive for cancer. Rose had his spleen and a portion of his pancreas removed during the surgery. Rose's family says the coach had additional tests at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City last weekend. Doctors will decide on his treatment.
