    Texas Tech C Hamby faces assault charge (AP)
    Texas Tech center Stephen Hamby faces an aggravated assault charge for allegedly punching a man in the face twice in March. Hamby, indicted by a grand jury Tuesday, is accused of punching the man during an altercation near campus. The victim suffered a fractured jaw and was treated at a Lubbock hospital, police said. -- read full article

    North Dakota star RB Chappell ineligible (AP)
    North Dakota star running back Ryan Chappell is academically ineligible to play this season, the first for the school at Division I. UND football coach Chris Mussman said Tuesday that Chappell will remain on the team. He was to begin his junior season this fall.     Arkansas RB Barnett arrested (AP)
    Arkansas running back Brandon Barnett was arrested on an outstanding warrant for a traffic citation Tuesday night. After getting pulled over, Fayetteville police checked his record and discovered he was wanted on an outstanding warrant in Johnson County, according to Sgt.     Clemson LB Vincent won't return in 2008 (AP)
    Suspended Clemson linebacker Cortney Vincent will not return for the 2008 season. Vincent was suspended for spring practice for an unspecified violation of team rules. Coach Tommy Bowden said in a news release Monday that Vincent would have been academically eligible to compete in the fall, but did not meet goals set by the team for the spring. -- read full article

    Florida State WR Parker pleads guilty (AP)
    Florida State receiver Preston Parker will have to sit out the first two games of the 2008 season after pleading guilty Monday to two misdemeanor charges. The 21-year-old Parker, the Seminoles' most versatile player last season, was arrested in April on a felony charge for allegedly having a loaded .45-caliber pistol in the dashboard of his car. -- read full article

    Va. Tech recruit arrested on drug charge (AP)
    A Virginia Tech football recruit who led Amherst High School to consecutive Group AA state championships and was voted The Associated Press Virginia player of the year is facing felony drug charges.     Murray State QB's felony charge reduced (AP)
    A judge reduced a felony charge to a misdemeanor against Murray State quarterback Jeff Ehrhardt, who pushed a campus police officer and took his ticket book. Ehrhardt pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct Tuesday. He received a 90-day suspended sentence, must pay a $178 fine and perform 20 hours of community service work, according to Tona Steger of the Calloway County Attorney's Office. -- read full article

    USC signs 25-year lease with LA Coliseum (AP)
    Southern California has signed a new 25-year lease that will keep the Trojans' football team in the Los Angeles Coliseum and include improvements in the stadium.     Jacksonville State signs QB Perrilloux (AP)
    Quarterback Ryan Perrilloux, kicked off LSU's national championship team after repeated off-the-field problems, signed Wednesday with Jacksonville State. Perrilloux will be able to transfer and start immediately for the Gamecocks.     Louisville dismisses RB Stripling (AP)
    Running back George Stripling was dismissed from the Louisville football team Friday for a violation of team rules. Stripling was suspended for one game last season for an unspecified violation of team rules. He ran for 1,338 yards and 13 touchdowns in 34 career games for the Cardinals.     Paterno feels better after hospital trip (AP)
