    Syracuse suspends top WR Mike Williams (AP)
    Syracuse's top receiver Mike Williams was suspended for academic reasons and is no longer enrolled at the school. Sue Edson, assistant athletics director for communications, said Tuesday that Williams was not enrolled. Coach Greg Robinson would not elaborate, citing privacy laws. Williams practiced with the team in the spring and completed the spring semester. -- read full article

At one hospital in Germany, the Miami football coach -- totally by happenstance -- met an injured soldier who he first crossed paths with on a recruiting trip to Louisiana years ago.     A Miami of Ohio football player is accused of entering two unlocked dorm rooms and struggling with a female student. Offensive lineman Zachary Marshall was released from the Butler County jail Friday after his mother posted bail of $26,000. The 21-year-old player is suspended from the team pending further investigation, the school said. -- read full article

    Two Penn State football players pleaded guilty Friday to a misdemeanor charge in connection with an on-campus fight last year, resolving the last of the major legal problems for current team members.     Former Gopher Dominic Jones sentenced (AP)
    Former Minnesota football player Dominic Jones was sentenced Thursday to a year in the county workhouse after being convicted of criminal sexual conduct. Hennepin County District Judge Marilyn Rosenbaum also sentenced the 21-year-old to a stayed four-year prison term, $1,000 restitution and seven years probation. -- read full article

    West Virginia University's $4 million lawsuit against ex-football coach Rich Rodriguez is headed for mediation, with the goal of resolving the dispute by Aug. 1.     NC A&T State player dies of heat illness (AP)
    North Carolina A&T State University says a football player has died from complications of heat illness. The school said Wednesday that senior Chad Wiley collapsed after a voluntary workout on campus Tuesday. Officials said he was transported to a hospital after an athletic trainer stabilized him.     2 Ex-Iowa players accused of sex assault (AP)
    Two former Iowa football players are accused of sexually assaulting a woman on campus last year, and university police have issued warrants for their arrests.     Montana OL Quinn arrested on DUI charge (AP)
    Montana offensive lineman J.D. Quinn was arrested Thursday on charges of drunken driving, his second DUI charge in less than a year.     Former Oklahoma QB Mildren dies at 58 (AP)
    Jack Mildren, a former lieutenant governor and the first quarterback in the University of Oklahoma's vaunted wishbone offense, died on Thursday, his brother said. He was 58.
