    Seminoles DE White returns after seizure (AP)
    Florida State defensive end Markus White returned to practice Friday, a day after suffering a seizure and missing practice. FSU officials said White takes medication to control an undisclosed medical condition and that Thursday was not the first time he had a seizure.     Former Cotton Bowl chief Brock dies (AP)
    Jim "Hoss" Brock, a longtime executive director of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association, died Thursday. He was 74. He died in his sleep early Thursday morning, Cotton Bowl officials said. Brock had been hospitalized since February after the first of several strokes. A former sports information director at TCU and SMU, Brock served as head of the Cotton Bowl from 1979-92. -- read full article

    Michigan RB Grady pleads guilty to DUI (AP)
    Michigan running back Kevin Grady has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunken-driving charge. Police arrested Grady on July 2 and measured his blood-alcohol level at 0.281 percent, about three-and-a-half times the state's legal limit. His trial was to have started Thursday in Wyoming District Court but instead entered the plea on July 29. -- read full article

    Texas A&M names McGee starting QB (AP)
    Senior Stephen McGee was chosen Texas A&M's starting quarterback by new coach Mike Sherman, ending the competition with sophomore Jerrod Johnson. The 6-foot-3 McGee, who started the past two seasons for former coach Dennis Franchione, threw for 2,311 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2007.     Cincy QB Mauk sues NCAA over eligibility (AP)
    Quarterback Ben Mauk has launched a legal Hail Mary in an effort to keep his college football career alive. Mauk filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the NCAA, less than a week after the association rejected his final appeal for another year of eligibility at Cincinnati.     Pitt loses injured WR Saddler for season (AP)
    Pitt freshman wide receiver and kick returner Cameron Saddler will miss the season because of a knee injury. Saddler tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a punt return drill on Tuesday. He had an MRI exam Thursday and will have surgery. Saddler will redshirt the season, the team said Thursday.     Winslow Sr. hired as AD at Central State (AP)
    Pro football Hall-of-Famer Kellen Winslow Sr. was hired Thursday as the athletic director at Central State University. Winslow, a tight end for the San Diego Chargers from 1979-87, will take over the program located 15 miles east of Dayton.     Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson insisted Josh Nesbitt will recover quickly from a shoulder bruise the quarterback sustained in practice Wednesday morning.     Illini DT Sirod Williams out for season (AP)
    Illinois defensive tackle Sirod Williams will miss the season with a knee injury. Williams faces surgery after hurting the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Saturday during preseason practice.     Dismissed Oklahoma recruit lands at Troy (AP)
    Josh Jarboe, a highly regarded wide receiver recruit who was kicked off the team at Oklahoma two weeks ago, has decided to enroll at Troy. Jarboe signed a letter of intent to play with Oklahoma in February, but in May he pleaded guilty to charges of bringing a gun to Cedar Grove High School in Georgia and carrying a pistol without a license. -- read full article

    Pittsburgh DE Fulmer injures knee again (AP)
    Pitt has lost starting defensive end Doug Fulmer to a knee injury, the third year in a row injuries have ended Fulmer's season. Fulmer tore a ligament in his left knee and will need surgery. An MRI revealed the injury Monday, Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt said Tuesday.     Gamecocks' Garcia out with ankle sprain (AP)
    South Carolina redshirt freshman quarterback Stephen Garcia is expected to miss a week of practice because of a sprained right ankle. Garcia will miss Wednesday night's scrimmage, coach Steve Spurrier said Monday. Garcia told Spurrier he was injured in Saturday's scrimmage.     Missouri TE Coffman sidelined 2 weeks (AP)
    Missouri tight end Chase Coffman is expected to miss the next two weeks of practice with a broken pinkie finger. The injury happened last week but Coffman had been trying to practice through it, wearing a glove to protect the finger on his right hand.
