Future is now for Ohio State QB Pryor (AP)
When he signed his letter of intent with Ohio State last March 19, Terrelle Pryor was praised as the Buckeyes' quarterback of the future. The future is now. Pryor will not attend his first college class until Wednesday, but he is the choice of the week for coach Jim Tressel in the Buckeyes' surprising quarterback derby. -- read full article

LSU-Auburn often features wild endings (AP)
It's an electric rivalry with major Southeastern Conference implications and a growing tradition of wild finishes and heart-thumping gambles. If those aren't strong enough selling points for Saturday night's clash between SEC West rivals No. 10 Auburn and No. 6 LSU, here's another: Tommy Tuberville really doesn't think you should miss it. -- read full article

Virginia quarterback Peter Lalich was dismissed from the team after admitting in court on Thursday that he violated terms of his drinking-related probation by consuming alcohol. The dismissal, announced in a statement issued by the school, came on the same day that Lalich, 20, told a judge in Charlottesville General District Court that he had consumed alcohol while on probation following his... -- read full article

Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer will not have to give a deposition in a lawsuit involving a former Alabama booster next week, according to a court order. He was arrested and jailed Thursday on $30,000 bond for his actions July 15, police said. A news release Friday gave no other details. Patton already had been suspended from the team after a July traffic stop led to the discovery of outstanding warrants from 2007, one for... -- read full article

Irish try to move to 3-0, visit Spartans (AP)
Notre Dame has a chance to move closer to glory. A year after finishing with just three wins, the Fighting Irish have a shot at being 3-0 for the first time since 2002 and second time since 1996. They beat Michigan 35-17 last week after opening with a lackluster win against San Diego State at home, setting up a road test Saturday against Michigan State. -- read full article

Colorado tops No. 21 West Virginia in OT (AP)
Colorado kicker Aric Goodman wasn't ignored or isolated on the sideline as he waited for his chance. Some of his Buffaloes teammates even sought him out and offered a little friendly advice -- don't miss. Goodman didn't, making a 25-yard field goal in overtime to give Colorado a 17-14 victory over No. -- read full article

Arkansas bracing for tough stretch (AP)
Bobby Petrino is back in the Southeastern Conference -- and the rest of the league sure looks ready for him. There are a record five SEC teams in the AP top 10 this week, and Petrino's Arkansas team plays three of them in the next four weeks. The other opponent? No. 7 Texas. "Yeah, it's a good stretch," Petrino said, not wanting to look too far ahead. -- read full article

Vols' D seeks improvement at Florida (AP)
Florida piled up 59 points on Tennessee last season. Defensive coordinator John Chavis isn't making any promises about an improved performance against the Gators on Saturday. "There's no guarantees it won't happen again like that," Chavis said. "If we knew those things we'd just go cut bait and go fishing and go do something else," One thing's for sure. -- read full article

Auburn's offense trying to fix mistakes (AP)
Tommy Tuberville expected No. 10 Auburn to make some mistakes in adapting to a new offense. The Tigers' coach couldn't quite predict this: A rash of fumbles and penalties and struggles cashing in drives with touchdowns. That's the bad news. The good news is he figures those mistakes are the biggest factors holding back the offense, not problems at quarterback or mastering the spread offense. -- read full article

    Questions abound for Buckeyes (AP)
Three games into the season, there's no question Ohio State is searching for answers. Coach Jim Tressel was practically a one-man news conference Tuesday, asking himself rhetorical questions 38 times during his 40-minute news conference on Tuesday. He used the word "question" seven more times. Think he's consumed with questions? -- read full article

Auburn RB Lester returns to practice (AP)
AUBURN, Ala. (AP)-- Auburn tailback Brad Lester has returned to practice but his status remains uncertain for Saturday's game with No. 6 LSU. Lester was held out of contact drills in Tuesday's practice for 10th-ranked Auburn with a sprained neck sustained against Mississippi State. Coach Tommy Tuberville said Lester has a long way to go before Thursday's practice and has to be able to have contact... -- read full article

ASU looks to rebound vs. No. 3 Georgia (AP)
Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson has had a hard time getting over the Sun Devils' unthinkable 23-20 overtime loss to UNLV on Saturday night. "I haven't slept in two days," Erickson said at his weekly news conference on Monday. "Doesn't it look like it?" Reviewing films of ASU's next opponent -- third-ranked Georgia -- probably won't help Erickson catch up on his sleep. -- read full article

Vanderbilt closing in on Top 25 (AP)
A 3-0 start has Vanderbilt knocking on the door of its first national ranking in 24 years. The Commodores, undefeated through three games for only the third time since 1984, received 63 votes in this week's Associated Press poll, the most of any team outside the Top 25. That's no small accomplishment for a program that hasn't won a bowl game since 1955 and is in the midst of a 25-year losing... -- read full article

Alabama defense stingy despite youth (AP)
Javier Arenas heard the skeptics who wondered about Alabama's defense before the season. All those lost stars. A shuffled line. An influx of newcomers. Surely the offense would have to shoulder most of the load, right? On the contrary, the defense has more than done its part in the Crimson Tide's fast start, allowing only one offensive touchdown in the first three games as Alabama rose to No. -- read full article
