Paterno wants focus on game, not him (AP)
Joe Paterno has enough to worry about this weekend with a trip to the Rose Bowl at stake for No. 7 Penn State. He's certainly not focusing yet on what might come after Saturday, whether that would be getting his sore hip fixed or his long-term overall future. Paterno's contract expires after the season, and the coach and school president Graham Spanier have put off talks about the future until after... -- read full article

ESPN to air BCS games from 2011-14 (AP)
Bowl Championship Series games are moving to ESPN, the latest high-profile sporting event to migrate from over-the-air television to cable. BCS coordinator John Swofford is confident that fewer and fewer viewers make a distinction between the traditional broadcast networks such as Fox, the current home of the BCS, and cable channels such as ESPN, which will start airing the games in January 2011. -- read full article

When Texas hired football coach Mack Brown a decade ago, it was the result of a high-stakes national coaching search to find just the right man to lead one of college football's most prestigious programs. Texas decided it didn't want to go through that again when Brown retires, whenever that day comes. -- read full article

Surprising Terps in position to win ACC (AP)
Back in the Top 25 after defeating another ranked foe, Maryland has only one complaint: Florida State didn't join them in the poll. By beating North Carolina on Saturday, the Terrapins became the only team in the nation this season with four wins over ranked opponents. Maryland has won a school-record six in a row against Top 25 teams, a streak that began last year with victories over Rutgers and... -- read full article

No. 7 Penn State 1 win from Rose Bowl (AP)
After a confidence-boosting win over Indiana, it didn't take linebacker Josh Hull long to think about what lies ahead for No. 7 Penn State. A win over No. 17 Michigan State next week in the regular season finale would send the Nittany Lions (10-1, 6-1 Big Ten) to the Rose Bowl. "It's huge. Our whole season is resting on one game," Hull said after his seven tackles and a sack paced a tenacious Nittany... -- read full article

No. 6 USC getting strong play from line (AP)
So much of the attention over the years has been paid to the playmakers on the talented teams at Southern California. Yet when Stanford seemed poised to possibly deal the Trojans another shocker, it was the unsung offensive line that took over. "We just needed to come out and dominate," guard Jeff Byers said. -- read full article

No. 3 Florida enjoying big 1st quarters (AP)
Of all the numbers No. 3 Florida has rolled up while winning its last six games, there are two that stand out: 101-0. The Gators have outscored opponents 101-0 in the first quarter the last six games, fast starts that have led to seemingly easy victories in the Southeastern Conference. Underachievers Georgia, Auburn to meet (AP)
This Auburn-Georgia game figured to be a doozie, with championships and BCS bowl ambitions on the line, and maybe even a Heisman Trophy candidate or two on the field. That's how it looked in August, at least. Instead, Saturday's game will be about pride and some kind of bowl trip, for the Tigers.
