    Spurrier's staff to earn nearly $2M (AP)
    It'll cost South Carolina nearly $2 million for Steve Spurrier's rebuilt football staff. The school released salaries of Spurrier's nine assistants and new strength and conditioning coach Craig Fitzgerald on Thursday after a request by The Associated Press and other media outlets. Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward will earn the most of Spurrier's six new hires at $275,000 a year. -- read full article

    Rutgers hires ex-TE Pernetti, 38, as AD (AP)
    Former Rutgers football player Tim Pernetti has been hired as the school's new athletic director. Pernetti replaces Robert E. Mulcahy, who was fired at the end of last year.     Schiano gives up def. coordinator duties (AP)
    Rutgers coach Greg Schiano is giving up his defensive coordinator duties. Schiano announced Tuesday that he is promoting two assistants to share the defensive coordinator role. He also made two other assistants co-offensive coordinators.     WSU QB Lobbestael suspended after arrest (AP)
    Washington State quarterback Marshall Lobbestael has been suspended from team activities after a weekend arrest in Pullman. Pullman police Cmdr. Chris Tennant said Tuesday that officers found the 19-year-old passed out, apparently from alcohol, in the passenger seat of a pickup truck at 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the police department parking lot. -- read full article

    Illinois St. hires Don Shula's grandson (AP)
    Illinois State has hired the grandson of Hall of Famer Don Shula as an offensive assistant. Dan Shula is coming off a two-year graduate assistantship at Miami after spending the 2006 season at Alabama as a graduate assistant coach.     Coker among 3 finalists for UTSA job (AP)
    Former Miami coach Larry Coker is among three finalists to become the first head coach of the new Texas-San Antonio football program. UTSA athletics director Lynn Hickey said Monday that Coker and the other candidates will be interviewed within the next 10 days.     Illinois defensive tackle Josh Brent has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license.     Nebraska QB Witt decides to transfer (AP)
    Nebraska quarterback Patrick Witt, who was expected to compete for a starting job next season, has decided to transfer to another school. Nebraska coach Bo Pelini confirmed Witt's decision on Sunday.     Illinois suspends Brent after DUI arrest (AP)
    Illinois coach Ron Zook says defensive tackle Josh Brent has been suspended from the team indefinitely after his arrest over the weekend. Illinois State Police say Brent was arrested early Saturday in Urbana for driving under the influence.     E. Washington to appeal postseason ban (AP)
    Eastern Washington will appeal an NCAA ban on postseason play by its football team next season. Athletic director Bill Chaves said in a news release Saturday that Eastern will appeal only the postseason ban -- not the other penalties levied by the NCAA earlier this month.     Irish hire Hart to coach defensive line (AP)
    Randy Hart, the defensive line coach at Washington for the past 21 years, was hired as defensive line coach at Notre Dame on Saturday. "We wanted someone that was a high-energy coach that could develop our young defensive line," coach Charlie Weis said.     Former Kansas State football coach Ron Prince is rejoining the University of Virginia's staff as an assistant. Virginia coach Al Groh announced Prince's hiring Friday.
