AP - "Some Americans Abroad" is a quietly malicious little comedy.

AP - The makers of the new "X-Files" movie have done themselves a disservice in coming up with the elongated title, "The X-Files: I Want to Believe." Really, it just invites a whole bunch of bad jokes which, unfortunately, are justified.

AP - The title is "Step Brothers." You know, because there are two of them.

AP - There's a nice theatrical contrast — all-American wholesomeness vs. determined Teutonic debauchery — on display at the 2008 Stratford Shakespeare Festival.

AP - "When the Guillotine Fell" (St. Martin's Press. 256 pages. $24.95), by Jeremy Mercer: It may come as a surprise to some that France routinely used the guillotine as its official method of capital punishment until 1977, when Hamida Djandoubi became the last man guillotined in the port town of Marseilles.

AP - "My Sister, My Love" (Ecco. 562 pages. $25.95), by Joyce Carol Oates: Some of Oates' books feel as if she wrote them as dares to herself. This novel, her 37th, is one of the wildest.
