"Gary" married to old-fashioned sitcom formula (Reuters)
Reuters - In general, TV's relatively few surviving sitcoms have moved on from the multicamera family shows with the two weird and/or precocious kids and the old sofa around which most of the action and dialogue revolves. In general, that is, but not in the case of "Gary Unmarried," which CBS has retooled to no great effect. -- read full article

Beck brings it all back home in wide-ranging show (Reuters)

(Gus Ruelas/Reuters)Reuters - With a huge sense of irony, Beck kicked off his triumphant homecoming show Saturday at the Hollywood Bowl with his 1993 slacker anthem "Loser." A decade and half after gaining notice with that breakthrough hit, he has the clout to handpick openers Spoon and MGMT and to share the stage with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra Strings, conducted by his father, David Campbell.

(Handout/Reuters)Reuters - Judging from the part of the ad that says, ". . . from the author of 'The Notebook,'" you might suspect that this particular Richard Gere-Diane Lane reunion isn't going to be the torrid affair that was 2002's "Unfaithful," and of course you'd be quite right.

"Worst Week" possibly too good to be true (Reuters)

The cast of 'Worst Week' in a photo courtesy of CBS. 'Worst Week' stars relatively unknown Kyle Bornheimer as good-guy everyman Sam. In the premiere, his girlfriend, Melanie (Erinn Hayes), is six weeks' pregnant. They plan to announce her pregnancy and their engagement during an overnight visit to her loving but oh-so-traditional parents that very night. (Handout/Reuters)Reuters - I've watched "Worst Week" three times, and I've laughed through each viewing. That makes me nervous. Can any show that cleverly plotted, written, directed and performed -- and especially one adapted from the Brits -- sustain that high a level of humor week after week?
