| Investor's Business Daily - A number of police departments across the country are relying more on bicycle patrols largely because of high gas prices. Experts say many departments started putting police officers on bikes in the 1980s and 1990s. But departments then scaled back those efforts after the 9/11 terrorist attacks as their funding and priorities changed. Now bike patrols are increasing again in places such as Toledo, Ohio; Charlotte, N.C.; and Bedford, Va. A police department in Clive, Iowa, says it already has spent its entire annual fuel budget, so its officers are biking and walking more to save gas. -- read full article |
