    FEMA trailer occupant killed after police standoff (AP)

    This is the trailer and home where police fatally shot a mentally ill occupant of the federally supplied trailer following a 10-hour standoff early Wednesday, June 4, 2008, in a New Orleans neighborhood hit hard by Hurricane Katrina. The man locked himself inside the partly gutted home adjacent to the trailer. Police shot him around 2 a.m. after he pointed a handgun at officers who tried to arrest him, they said. The man later died at a hospital.
