| Australian and WNBA star Lauren Jackson will undergo surgery on a nagging right ankle injury after the Olympics are over. A statement released by the Australia Olympic Committee said Jackson has an impingement at the front of her right ankle joint. She has required repeated injections to compete in Beijing and will have arthroscopic surgery in Sydney next week. -- read full article |

| Shock's Ford has knee surgery (AP) |
| Detroit Shock forward Cheryl Ford has had surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. The team made the announcement Friday. The 6-foot-3 Ford was injured during a home game against the Los Angeles Sparks on July 22. She fell to the court while trying to restrain a teammate during a fracas with seconds left in the game. -- read full article |

| Sun sign Jones to 3-year extension (AP) |
| Former University of Connecticut star Asjha Jones signed a three-year contract extension with the WNBA's Connecticut Sun. Terms of the deal announced Wednesday weren't released. Jones is in her fifth season with the Sun. The 6-foot-2 forward leads the team in scoring at almost 17 points per game. She also averages 6.2 rebounds per contest. -- read full article |

| Mercury center Smith has knee surgery (AP) |
| Mercury center Tangela Smith underwent arthroscopic surgery on her right knee Tuesday and is expected to recover in four to six weeks. Phoenix team physician Dr. Evan Lederman performed the procedure on the 6-foot-4 Smith, the Mercury's third-leading scorer at 11.1 points per game. The defending champion Mercury probably would have to make the playoffs to get Smith back this season. -- read full article |

| The Detroit Shock have acquired six-time All-Star Taj McWilliams-Franklin from the Washington Mystics for forwards Tasha Humphrey and Shay Murphy and a 2009 second-round draft pick. Detroit becomes McWilliams-Franklin's fifth team in her 10 WNBA seasons. She joined the Mystics in April and has averaged 13.3 points and 7.3 rebounds this season. -- read full article |

| The Phoenix Mercury signed forward Olympia Scott to a contract for the rest of the WNBA season Thursday. Scott played eight games last year for the champion Mercury. The 10-year veteran has played for six teams in her career and has career averages of 4.8 points and 3.2 rebounds.
